About KidSport Greater Victoria
KidSport Greater Victoria raises and distributes funds locally so that children experiencing financial need can access the benefits of sport and physical activity. We believe that no kid should be left on the sidelines, and that access to organized sport and physical activity fosters essential life skills, contributes to healthier lifestyles and enhances social and community connectedness.
The KidSport concept was launched in 1993 by board and staff at Sport BC as a way to help address the challenges faced by many families when registering their children in organized sport. From our modest start in 2000, KidSport Greater Victoria has grown steadily to become BC's largest KidSport chapter, and the third largest across the country. The presence of KidSport across the country has at the same time grown exponentially and become a truly national entity, with 11 provincial/territorial chapters and over 180 community-based chapters now working together to make a difference for more kids.
Through 2023 and 2024, KidSport Greater Victoria has seen dramatic increase in demand for our support from eligible local kids. Thanks to incredible community support we are grateful to have so far raised sufficient funds to help all of them. In the last 24 years, we have proudly helped over 17,100 kids from Victoria to Sidney, Sooke to the Gulf Islands (& all points in between!), with over $4,500,000 in season-of-sport registration grants. As demand continues to grow, we are truly appreciative to all of the supporters, donors and volunteers who help us help more kids to access the sports they love.
Our mission remains the same - to remove the financial barriers that prevent some children from playing organized sport,
